What's Next?

Here’s a question we used to hear a lot many years ago - “What’s going to be the next leap in technology or marketing 10 years from now?”

In 2000, it was the advent of social media that dominated the entire landscape with the rise of giants like Facebook or Twitter.

In 2010, it was the rise of 4G and e-commerce which also spurred the growth of omnichannel marketing tools such as Hubspot, Responsys, & Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

In 2015, it was the rise of smart connected technologies like Tesla or Google Home.

Fast forward today, the earlier question has changed quite drastically - “What’s going to be the next big thing in the next 12 months?” - notice how the time in finding the next leap in technology has shortened?

Technologies weren’t the only thing that was making leaps and bounds, even the way that we used to do thing’s has entirely changed.

Gone are the days where a website today needs to be fully hard coded, there are now technologies like webflow that allows designers to develop a full website with minimal knowledge of code.

Which begets another question altogether:

“Is it better to create things from scratch or is it more efficient to modify multiple technologies to get the same thing”

At REX, we are a firm believer of the latter. That being said, it’s not like we totally disregard the former - it’s just that in our world today, the needs for doing so are usually reserved when it's needed.

Just to share an example on how at REX we have changed to ensure that our operations and execution are much more efficient through the usage of technologies:

Data Management - From years of sorting out the mess in countless excel sheets with an endless amount of tabs to derive insights and graphs. Today, we have moved our project and data management into tools like:

  • AirTable - A project management platform based on spreadsheet-style and database hybrid, we consolidate our work into a smart table that is able to help filter, create views and generate reports with a click of a button
  • Google Data Studio (GDS) - Taking data visualization one notch higher, we utilise GDS to merge, blend and integrate multiple data sources to create real time insights for our clients
  • Formstack / Jotform - Using these services, we are able to create forms and design it to fit the needs of our clients in less than half the time it used to take. We further integrate the data from the form into AirTable and GDS to gain even deeper insights for them

These are only some of the core technologies and services that we use at REX to ensure that we help deliver the greatest efficiency to our clients. One thing’s for sure, the future we are looking ahead is no longer ten years ahead, instead the future is now.
