Avnet Expands into Asia
KUALA LUMPUR, 12 December 2007 – Avnet Technology Solutions, an operating group of global technology distributor Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today shared on its expansion plans for 2008 and announced the acquisition of Azure Technologies. This acquisition accelerates Avnet Technology Solutions’ growth in the Asia Pacific region by extending value-added IT distribution to Southeast Asia.
Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), has more than 300 locations serving customers in 73 countries worldwide, making it one of the world’s leading electronic component suppliers, enterprise computer manufacturers and embedded subsystem providers. For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2007, Avnet generated revenue of $15.68 billion.
While Avnet Technology Solutions, an operating group Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), represents US$5.1 billion in annual revenue for calendar year 2006, with locations in more than 30 countries. It has established itself for helping its channel to deliver the industry expertise needed to drive sales of complete enterprise solutions that include server, storage and networking technologies.

Azure Technologies, which operates through various entities in Malaysia and Singapore, including Azure Technologies Pte Ltd. and Azure Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd., has been focused on the distribution of IBM systems and solutions since 1996, with annual revenues of over US$90 million and more than 100 employees.
Avnet Technology Solutions intends to continue expanding in the region, both organically and through acquisitions that meet its business criteria. According to Chiew, acquisition is a strategic development that will expand Avnet’s presence in the region, while also strengthening the company’s relationship and business with major IT vendors.
With the growing concerns to establish a knowledge-based economy and to narrow the digital divide in Malaysia, revealed by Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi in his tabling of Budget 2008, it is stated that the government will be closely monitoring the rollout of broadband by service providers.
